EAN-5 Supplement
A five-digit supplemental symbol, EAN-5 is printed to the right of an EAN-13 or UPC-A and read in the same scan pass, separated from the primary symbol by a delineator pattern. Book and periodical publishing is its principal domain, where the five digits carry a suggested retail price: a leading currency indicator followed by four price digits. The supplement stands 20.73 mm tall, shorter than the 22.85 mm main symbol, with quiet zones of seven modules on the left and five on the right at the family X-dimension of 0.264 mm. EAN-5 is not a GS1 data carrier and holds no GTIN of its own; it qualifies the item identified by the symbol beside it. Its character set is numeric, and its parity pattern carries an internal checksum rather than a printed check digit.
