MaxiCode
Fixed dimensions set MaxiCode apart from every other two-dimensional symbology in common use: the symbol always measures approximately 28.14 mm square regardless of payload, because United Parcel Service designed it in 1992 to be located and read by fixed-position scanners on a conveyor moving at speed. Modules are hexagonal rather than square and are arranged in rows around a central bull's-eye finder. Capacity is correspondingly limited, at 93 alphanumeric characters, which suffices for a destination address, postal code, and service class. A module spans 0.88 mm, far coarser than the 0.254 mm typical of variable-size matrix codes, and one module of quiet zone is required. MaxiCode encodes ASCII and stands outside the GS1 system.
