Dock Door & Yard Management Barcodes
The dock and yard are critical transition points where inbound and outbound shipments change hands. Barcode scanning at dock doors and in the yard creates visibility into trailer movements, dock assignments, and shipment status.
Dock Door Barcodes
Every dock door has a unique barcode label that:
- Identifies the specific door number (e.g., DOCK-A01)
- Links to the WMS dock schedule
- Records which trailer is assigned to which door
- Timestamps all loading and unloading activities
Dock Door Scanning Workflow
Inbound: 1. Truck arrives at the gate 2. Guard scans the shipment paperwork barcode 3. System assigns a dock door based on the ASN and schedule 4. Guard directs the truck to the assigned door 5. Driver backs into the dock 6. Receiver scans the dock door barcode to start receiving 7. Pallet/case scans begin (matched against ASN) 8. Receiver scans dock door again to close the receipt
Outbound: 1. WMS assigns a dock door for the outbound shipment 2. Loader scans the dock door barcode to start loading 3. Scans each pallet/case as it is loaded onto the truck 4. WMS verifies all shipment items are loaded 5. Loader scans dock door to close the load 6. Truck departs with verified manifest
Trailer Identification
Trailers carry barcode labels for yard tracking:

Yard Management System (YMS)

- Move confirmation: Yard jockey scans trailer + new location when moving
- Dock assignment: When a door opens, system directs the trailer from yard to dock
- Gate check-out: Scan trailer at exit gate
Yard Location Barcodes
Like warehouse location barcodes, yard spots need barcode labels:
YARD-A-01 (Row A, Spot 01)
YARD-B-15 (Row B, Spot 15)
DOCK-01 (Dock Door 01)
Materials must be weather-resistant (UV, rain, snow) since they are outdoors.
Gate Check-In/Check-Out
Gate barcode scanning captures:
